Hey, Strangers!
This newsletter is coming in a bit late, but the past week has been… Not Great, for obvious reasons.
Last Thursday, I turned 32. One day after I woke up to the election results. Let’s just say it’s not how I hoped to start the year. I will never get to the final stage of grieving (acceptance), but I did, for the most part, rapidly go through the other stages, sometimes circling back and mostly spiraling. But right now, I’m angry.
I wish I could offer words of comfort, but I’m still looking for those myself. However, I want you to know you’re not alone.
If you’ve read the Strangers series already, especially Book Two, you’re already aware of the politics in this book. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s perfect for those who want to start a series where a bunch of mutants fight back against the government, which is timely, to say the least. And book one is free right now! With that said, let me get into some book updates…

I wish I had gotten this out to you sooner so you’d have more time, but there’s still today! The eBook for Strangers in Our Heads (Strangers # 1) is free to download. The sale ends today, so make sure you do it now! It’s okay, I’ll wait.
For those in the U.S.: You can download it right here on Amazon.
For those outside the U.S.: Use this Universal Link and follow the eBook prompt so it’ll take you to your country’s Amazon.
Okay, good, you’re back!
I don’t have a ton of other book updates because I’ve been trying to take a break. But we all know how I do with idle hands, so the break isn’t going well. So, I’m slowly dipping my feet back in.
I’m going to reread Strangers # 1 and # 2 (because yes, I didn’t when I said I would do that before), annotate them, and then create an outline for # 3. I don’t know how long this will take me. I’m not rushing it. I’m unclear on when I’ll start drafting. But I am excited to dive back into this world and revisit their shenanigans. (I haven’t read book one since it was published over a year ago!)

I had my book launch event last month, which was AMAZING. I spent the day with two of my favorites: Kate and Michelle. We went to a farm to cuddle some bunnies and made our way through a corn maze before getting lunch and meeting up with Sarah so we could head over to the event. Michelle did the Q&A with me, and we opened the floor to audience questions. It was great! I had a lovely time.

Events are so funny because they terrify me as a shy, awkward introvert. Leading up is nothing but anxiety and panic attacks. But then I’m able to flip a switch seconds before, get through it, and have an amazing time, and then afterward, it’s like everything short circuits: brain, body, emotions. I’m drained. I need to recharge. And then we do it all over again. Maybe it’ll get easier someday. Maybe it won’t. But I’m going to stay on the rollercoaster for as long as I can!
As of this moment, I don’t have any book events on the horizon, but I have a few things possibly in the works, and searching for more. So, once things are solidified, I’ll update you!

Last month, a few friends and I piled into a car, took a six-hour trip one way, and bought discounted books. We only went for the night, so it was a whirlwind of a journey, but exactly what I needed—even if I didn’t sleep beforehand and accidentally ended up awake for 40 hours. Lol.

We went to both Dollar Book Swap locations, and Half Priced Books. Then we spent the evening in an arcade and drank while we bowled. 😀

Since last month, I’ve finished Return to Midnight by Emma Dues, Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong, For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten, The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Holiday Match by Tori Samuels, Mindwalker by Kate Dylan, and The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall.
Seeing them all listed out like that… wow. It’s been a prolific reading month! Some of these are audiobooks as well, so I normally have more than one book going.
I’m currently reading Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, and yes, I marked Strangers in Our Heads as “currently reading” on StoryGraph because it counts! Lol. I also have a bunch of political books downloaded and a Witch’s Guide for Book Three research. I’m sort of skimming right now more than fully reading, so I might not count them in the year’s total.

I’ve been obsessed with two songs in particular:
As the World Caves In by Matt Maltese—This song came out in 2018, but it’s especially timely right now.
Lonely is the Muse by Halsey—This is from her newest album, which is heartbreakingly sad with all her health stuff, but this song is Chefs Kiss

My husband and I have been binge-watching the show Tracker for the past few days. It is not great, but it is weirdly satisfying right now. That’s all I can ask for, lol.
