Musing, Tidbits, and Other Strange Happenings From Bri Eberhart – September Newsletter

It’s that time again, folks. Right now, I have Gilmore Girls on in the background as I sit with the windows open on the first day of September, drinking some tea. Heavenly!

Not to be cliché, but I do love the “ber” months. While I will always prefer fall over winter, I still get swept up in the holidays, so until New Year’s comes around, and we’re in the thick of a WNY winter, I’m in my prime. Not to mention, the Bills are back on Sunday, baby! Woohoo!

Now THAT’S officially the start of fall, even if it’s not technically until the 22nd.

Anyway, let’s get into it!

I took a photo of my August word tracker and realized that I hadn’t worked on Strangers #3 at all since July. Whoops! However, I did manage to get a few good sprints in for MonsterHouse, so I can’t complain too much.

I think (read: hope!) now that summer is coming to a close, life will slow down a little, and I can get back to drafting more. I have two more book events scheduled for this year, and then I’ll be taking a break for 2025, which will also help a lot.

I’d love to finish drafting MH as soon as possible, and then really figure out what’s holding me up in S3. Something isn’t working, and I haven’t pinpointed exactly what it is. Here’s to hoping I can figure it out soon, though.

I’m currently in a stretch of book events. I’ve had three weekends in a row scheduled, and I’m finally coming up to the last one! They are extremely tiring, and it takes a few days to recover, but they’re still so much fun. Meeting new readers is an incredible experience, and I’m lucky I get to do this.

It’s also been shocking, but so fulfilling to hear so many people either come to an event specifically to get book two, or tell me they are eagerly waiting for book three already.

(People are actually reading my books??? Lol. Wild.)

So, yes. I have two more events to finish up the year. The next one was last-minute, so it’s the first time I’m announcing it, but this Sunday, I’ll be at Lock City Books for their Books & Brunch event, and then my last one is in October.

Life has been incredibly busy lately, and I’m not even sure why. Sunday marked officially one month since Coffee entered our lives (for those new around here, Coffee is our four-month-old kitten!) He’s such a handful, but he’s also so so so cute. I can’t imagine our lives without him now. (Also, everything has been turned into an extreme sport with him around, haha.)

Also!! Chris bought me a Nintendo Switch last month. I’m not much of a gamer, but I desperately wanted something to help me relax. Everything I do these days is writing-related. Even the candles I make now, I sell at my events, so I just wanted one thing that has nothing to do with anything! So, enter video games. I’ve been loving it! I’m not a fan of competition games, or where you die 100x trying to beat a level, so I’ve been on the hunt for cozy, low-stakes, story-like games. I finished What Remains of Edith Finch already and absolutely loved it! I also dabble with Tiny Bookshop, and most recently, have been working my way through Hitchhiker.

If you have any good Switch recommendations, please let me know! Easiest way to get ahold of me is through Instagram, or my contact form on my website if you’re not on there.

Since last month’s newsletter, I’ve read Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo and Deep as the Sky, Red as the Sea by Rita Chang-Eppig.

I’m currently (still) reading Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab. I’m just ashamed at this point! It’s just so long and I haven’t had much time to sit and read! I have been continuing with audiobooks, though, so at least some reading is getting done, but I’d like to finish this one as soon as possible. I’m also currently wrapping up We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough.

I’ve found a few more songs to add to the MonsterHouse playlist, so that’s been on repeat these days, primarily Crash And Burn by Angus & Julia Stone. I swear, the moment I hear that song, I feel like writing, which is really really nice!

If you’re curious about the rest of the playlist, here it is!

As I mentioned at the beginning of this newsletter, I’m back to watching Gilmore Girls (currently on S1 E17). I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this series, but I watch it yearly, so here we are. After this, I’ll cycle through Schitt’s Creek again. My two main comfort shows.

I’m also finally up to date on The Last of Us, and was able to make my way through the first half of Wednesday.
