Musing, Tidbits, and Other Strange Happenings From Bri Eberhart – August Newsletter

Hey Strangers!

August is off to a rough start, and I’m a bit behind in writing this, in Strangers 3 edits, and in other life responsibilities, so here’s to hoping the rest of the month is kind to me!

As mentioned above, I’m a bit behind on S3 edits. However, I’m hoping to get tunnel vision ASAP to get through the rest and get this over to my editor by the end of September.

I sent my first draft to my Kindle to read through it and take notes on what edits to implement. That part is over, so now I’m actually applying said edits. It’s going slower than I’d like, but this was the messiest first draft I’ve ever written, so A LOT of work needs to be done, including adding eight more chapters and expanding on another handful.

But I love revisions. To me, drafting is gathering sand to build sand castles later. And I’m finally making some castles, so I just need to sit down, get cozy, and finish building the empire.

Other S3-related things are just starting to happen, such as putting a deposit down on the last three character art prints for preorder goodies. So far, Rosie has made Gemma, Theo, Draven, Nora, Zay, and Caleb for me. I CAN’T WAIT to show who the last three characters are. Have any guesses? Reply to this email to leave a comment on this post letting me know! I should get some first drafts sometime in September, so that’s exciting! My book is due to my editor in early fall, and then I’ll be gearing up to work with Emily to get a cover made.

So all the exciting things are afoot! But I’m withholding a release date until I know for absolute sure I can deliver. Book two came out in October 2024, so I understand it’s been a while. And there’s a lot of wondering when the finale is coming, so all I can do is promise that it is finally coming! But please be patient with me a little longer as I wait to release an exact date. All I can say for sure is it’s definitely 2027, and not this year.

My fall calendar has filled up rather quickly! I’m still waiting to hear about one more event I’m hoping to add soon, but in the meantime, there are FOUR opportunities to see me this fall. Most are in September, and one is currently scheduled for November, so come see me at any of the below!

I’ve missed not one but TWO concerts recently because of bad weather. Sad doesn’t even begin to cover it!! We’ve missed out on Death Cab for Cutie and Franz Ferdinand. </3

My friend and I are supposed to see Jimmy Eat World in Toronto later this month, so fingers freaking crossed that my curse breaks by then!!

In other news, I went to Emo Bingo last month and had the time of my life! Bingo was very much a secondary activity because everyone was too busy belting out lyrics. 10/10 would do it again, even after someone spilled an entire drink on me.

My short story was also turned in to Once Upon A Book Club for their 12 Days of Book-Club-Mass that comes out this year! Here’s their Instagram post recapping what it’s all about:

Since last month’s newsletter, I’ve read Dirty Hit by Livy Hart, The Gravewood by Kelly Andrew, Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica, Murder Mindfully by Karsten Dusse, and An Ocean of Stars by Becca Mionis.

I’m currently reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (yes, still) and This Raging Sea by De Elizabeth.

The Strokes have a new album out: Reality Awaits. Just in case you haven’t heard. It’s admittedly not my favorite of theirs BUT I can say that I like it the more I listen to it. So take that as you will.

Also, make sure you’re following me on Instagram! Next week, I’ll be posting about the book playlists for Strangers in Our Heads & Strangers in Our Hearts!

TV has gone out the window completely. I cannot find enough hours in the day to keep up. I did take a night off this past Friday, though, and rewatched The Cheetah Girls because why not?

Meet Me at the Ruins is a contemplative story of love, friendship + anxiety, set in early 2000s Edinburgh

It’s 2003, and Margo is reeling from a bad breakup. She’s looking forward to a drama-free semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland. Seven strangers wake up in a sealed compound with no memory of how they got there. A computer voice informs them they need to perform tasks, and failure or breaking the rules results in a strike.

The first two strikes induce extreme pain. The third strike is death.
